Cobactan 2.5% contains a 4th generation cephalosporin (cefquinome 25 mg/ml) in a ready-to-use suspension for injection. It is active against Gram+ and Gram- bacteria. The extraordinary rapid onset of action and good tissue penetration assure a rapid bactericidal effect. Tissue tolerance is high and withdrawal periods are short.

Description
Cobactan 2.5 % is a ready-to-use suspension for injection containing cefquinome, a 4th generation cephalosporin. The shape of the cefquinome molecule facilitates a fast distribution in the treated animals and ensures a quick passage of bacterial cell walls, resulting in a rapid bactericidal effect following injection. Cefquinome has a broad-spectrum of activity, including Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, such as Actinobacillus spp., Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., E. coli, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Salmonella spp., Clostridium spp., Corynebacterium and Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae. Cefquinome is highly resistant against inactivation by -lactamase producing bacteria.
Composition
Suspension of 25 mg cefquinome per ml (corresponding with 29.64 cefquinome sulphate per ml)
Formulation
Ready-to-use suspension for injection.
Indications
Treatment of infections caused by bacteria sensitive to cefquinome, such as:
- Respiratory tract infections caused by Pasteurella spp., Haemophilus spp., Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Streptococcus spp.
- MMA (metritis, mastitis agalactia) caused by E. coli and Staphylococcus spp.
- Meningitis caused by Streptococcus suis
- Epidermitis caused by Staphylococcus spp.
